Songs about Soccer Players

Everytime I see Deuce's sig about George Best I start humming a song about him (and Alex Higgins) that I love by a band called "Running Riot", the song called "Alcoholic Heroes".

Anyone else have favorite songs about soccer players? (we can do teams later.) I also like Beerzone's "Gazza Gazza" and the Business' "Viva Bobby Moore".

Here is a link to a thread I made about a Kasey Keller song I found once... it's kinda catchy.

Old Ska, what other ska bands do you like? I used to be bigger into ska back several years ago, but haven't been so much lately. I was more of a ska-punk fan like BossTones, RBF, Aquabats, My Superhero, Skankin' Pickle, etc. but loved older traditional 2-tone type stuff like the Scofflaws, The Skatelites, Hepcat, and some others. Ahh the memories...

Way back in the day I played sax in a ska band in Provo. It was Stretch Armstrong, back when they just played in pizza joints for food. It was awesome.

Oh yeah, cool. I remember Stretch (Armstrong, Magnifico, etc.) I saw them a number of times. Great local stuff. There was Insatiable, Model Citizen, the KinderTones, others I can't recall... we had a pretty good local scene back then!

Yeah, I am mostly a trad ska guy. 2 weeks ago I actually got to see Desmond Dekker! Prince Buster is probably my all time favorite, but I love Symarip, the Pioneers, even Judge Dread. All that stuff. I like a bunch of modern ska bands too...but I just don't follow them as closely. Pressure Cooker is awesome, Deal's Gone Bad is another modern band I love (even if they are Chicago fans).

My friend Ska Bob (Bob Walter) was your manager.

I think I remember Ska Bob. Did he have long curly hair? I played with them in 1991, then I went on my mission. The girl sax player they replaced me with ended up marrying the guitar player (Gordy), so I was out of a job when I came back and I had to find something else to do to pay the bills.

Nah, Bob often uses "Little Cripple Boy" as his name on the internet. He is a mod/scooterist type mostly.

Okay, now I remember. The long curly haired guy was the guy who used to introduce us. I didn't know Ska Bob very well, but with your description I know exactly who he is. He and all his buddies would show up to the concerts on their Vespas. They were awesome.
